(Note: You cannot convert music from the iTunes store that isn't iTunes plus)
Go to Edit -> Preferences and click on the advanced tab, then click "Import"
Select the file setting you want to use (MP3) you also might want to change the bit rate of 128kbps to 256kbps as the music will sound better.
Select song(s) then go to Advanced -> Convert Selection to MP3
